November 1, 2006 - Mike & Patty purchased the Woodshed. Patty kept her day job in L.A., helping out on Saturdays and evenings, while Mike worked 6 days a week with a focus on foodservice, adding restaurants to the established base of firewood residents. He loved hanging out with customers discussing his passion - Cooking Wood and so began his dream project: Sharpe Gourmet Wood Chips. His vision was filling the shelves of every local meat department with his carefully designed boxes and varieties.
September, 2009 Everything came to a screeching halt: Mike was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia. Between months spent in hospitals he struggled to get to his favorite place, the wood yard. When he was strong enough, the hospital room became his office, making deals on the phone & even packing the prototypes of the Sharpe Gourmet Sampler Box.
September, 2011 We created Mike's Ohana to honor his fight and join the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light the Night Walk at Angels Stadium. We were overwhelmed by the 1000's of people in attendance - supporters, survivors & the broken hearted who lost loved ones to the brutal cancer battle.
January, 2012 - Sadly, the Woodshed lost our leader. Mike's Ohana continues to honor his memory & help all those battling cancer! With the amazing generosity of many, we've raised over $225,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in his honor.
100% of People's Choice Ticket Sales for both our competition teams - Sharpe Gourmet Cooking Wood & Team Woodshed are donated to LLS! Every Sharpe Gourmet Sampler Box purchased is a $10 donation! We also have bags of pretzels and popcorn at the Woodshed for a $5 donation.

We will continue to FIGHT until the CURE is found!
